Hellman & Gilston Electric Hosts Electrical Division Safety Day at Bronx Headquarters

Hellman Electric and Gilston Electric recently hosted the Electrical Division Safety Day at its Bronx headquarters, bringing together field personnel, safety leaders, manufacturers, and union representatives for a full day dedicated to advancing jobsite safety, workforce education, and industry collaboration.

The event was made possible through the support of Electra USA, whose partnership helped deliver a comprehensive safety-focused experience for attendees.

Reinforcing a Culture of Safety

Safety Day served as more than a training initiative. It reflected the industry’s continued investment in proactive safety education, hands-on learning, and workforce engagement across every level of operations.

Attendees heard from Ray West, Bronx Business Representative, who spoke about Hellman Electric and Gilston Electric ’s longstanding ties to the New York community and its relationship with Local 3 IBEW. His remarks emphasized the importance of union partnerships, workforce development, and maintaining a culture where safety and craftsmanship remain inseparable.

Industry Partners Deliver Live Demonstrations

Throughout the event, leading manufacturers and safety partners conducted live demonstrations and product education sessions designed to reinforce best practices in the field.

Participating partners included:

  • Milwaukee Tool
  • Greenlee
  • Portwest
  • Menotti Safety
  • Werner Ladders
  • 3M Fall Protection

Demonstrations covered critical topics including ladder safety, fall protection systems, PPE standards, tool safety, and jobsite preparedness. Employees had the opportunity to engage directly with manufacturers, evaluate new equipment, and participate in practical, hands-on safety discussions relevant to day-to-day field operations.

Employee Engagement & Recognition

In addition to educational sessions and demonstrations, attendees received vendor-sponsored swag bags and participated in raffles throughout the day, with employees taking home tools, equipment, and other giveaways provided by participating partners.

The event created an opportunity for crews, vendors, and industry representatives to connect outside the jobsite while reinforcing the shared responsibility of maintaining safe working environments across the electrical industry.

Catering was provided by Great American BBQ, helping bring teams together throughout the day in a relaxed and collaborative setting.

Safety Day 2025 brought that commitment to life, uniting teams across all our divisions for a day of education, engagement, and appreciation.

Kicking off the event, Hellman Electric’s CEO & President, Steven Lazzaro, shared remarks reinforcing Hellman’s continued investment in safety, innovation, and the well-being of every employee.

The day featured:

  • Live demonstrations from trusted partners like Milwaukee Tool, who led tool demos and sponsored raffle giveaways, including a crowd-favorite Milwaukee radio.

Celebrating Safety: Hellman Electric’s Safety Awareness Week Event

At Hellman Electric, safety is more than a priority—it’s a core value woven into every aspect of our operations. This year, we proudly celebrated Construction Safety Week with our first-ever onsite employee event to raise safety awareness and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

The event was nothing short of a success, drawing in 197 employees who came together in the spirit of camaraderie and safety advocacy.

To help fuel the day full of activities and presentations, we brought in mouth-watering delights from J’s BBQ.

The hearty fare filled our stomachs and fueled meaningful conversations about safety practices and personal experiences from industry-leading vendors, including:

  • 3M Fall Protection: Demonstrated cutting-edge fall protection gear, emphasizing the importance of high-quality safety equipment in preventing accidents.
  • Greenlee: Offered hands-on tool demos and generously donated a tester for our giveaway, making their booth a popular stop for our tech-savvy employees.
  • Milwaukee: Brought a variety of tool demos and giveaways, including shirts, a leaf blower, and a radio, adding an element of fun and excitement to the event.
  • Menotti Enterprises & Otoos: Our dedicated safety consulting companies were there, providing valuable insights and advice on maintaining safety standards.
  • Louisville Ladders: Focused on ladder safety, demonstrating best practices and safe usage techniques to prevent common workplace injuries.

In addition, as part of our event, we hosted an internal trivia contest focusing on safety knowledge. Employees participated, showcasing their expertise, and the competition got intense with two bonus rounds. The competition eventually ended with awarding a $250 Red Wing Gift Card to the winner, Jim Ditta, who earned the top spot due to his impressive knowledge of construction safety practices.

We owe a special thank you to Bronx Business Representative Benny Arena for his presence and support of our Safety Day and to Electra USA for their unwavering support of our safety initiatives. Their contributions were instrumental in making this event a resounding success.

Our first-ever Construction Safety Week event was more than just a celebration—it was a powerful reminder of our commitment to fostering a safe work environment. Our employees’ enthusiasm and participation have set a high bar, and we look forward to making this an annual tradition!
